Dec Hickey

Dec Hickey was born and brought up in Bedford. A life long record collector, in the early 1980s he ran an ‘alternative’ club night and then promoted a diverse range of groups that would otherwise likely have sidestepped the town - New Order, Teardrop Explodes, Cabaret Voltaire, Cocteau Twins, Eyeless In Gaza, Comsat Angels, The Wake, Test Department, The Virgin Prunes, Portion Control, Workforce and others included - before running the short lived label, Rorschach Testing. The New Order promotion set him off on catching near on a hundred NO gigs and three decades later this ‘coolest of road trips’ became From Heaven to Heaven… a very wonderful book and truly unique biography that documents in detail the early live career of an iconic band as never before. Now living in Ireland, on a ‘smart casual’ day you’ll usually find Dec wearing a vintage/1950s-60s Banner label shirt (others were available) and old skool Adidas Sambas and he currently hosts the ‘post punk plus’ podcast 41 Rooms @ 41rooms.com
